This is intensely atmospheric, too. The heat just sizzles off the computer screen.

This makes me remember why I love HP fandom. Sort of AU, but could be a missing moment from book 7. After Ron leaves Harry and Hermione, he finds Draco bruised and battered, and he nurses him back to health. Snarky and hot! Though be warned that this deals with past physical and sexual abuse.

Protective Measures by Anon, for smutty_claus: Neville/Ginny; NC-17; 10,000 words; After the war is over, Neville and Ginny attempt to pick up the pieces.

This is full of some really lovely longing. I especially love the back story of Neville and Ginny during Neville's seventh year.

A Little Sideways by Anon, for smutty_claus: Luna/Cedric; 9000 words; NC-17; Cedric was never as dead as everyone thought. All he needed was one person to see him.

This is probably my favorite of the fest so far. The premise is so interesting, and Cedric's longing and loneliness are so palpable.

This was just fun! Harry and Ginny on holiday in Argentina! The little touches of Spanish and the atmosphere really make this fic.

Upon the Midnight Clear by Anon, for smutty_claus: Draco/Hermione; 4,300 words; NC-17; Years after the war, things have changed. Hermione meets Draco at a Christmas party and goes home with him to make a little music.

I rec this because I enjoyed it, and I thought it was very well written. My only caveat would be that it came a touch too close to Ron!bashing for my tastes, but I'm maybe over sensitive about that. It was still really well done, though. Draco, in particular, was handled more sensitively than he usually is.

Lose Your Mind by Anon, for smutty_claus: Harry/Megan Jones; NC-17; 3,300 words: Things never seem to go according to plan with Megan, but Harry always enjoys the results.

I have no idea who Megan Jones is, and I'm always bemused when people request such minor characters, but the author did a good job with the character. Megan is fun loving and vibrant and I might have imagined she was Ginny, and this was a very enjoyable read.

I actually have more to rec, but I have to stop here for now. DEFINITELY check out smutty_claus if you have any free time. It's always my favorite time of year, when I find myself reading all sorts of interesting characters!

Good news:

* I received holiday cards from frakup (complete with piccy, whee!), wildcelticrose, and alueua. I think I'm going to borrow an idea from wildcelticrose and hang the cards I receive on my front door. :) Thanks, everyone!

* I've got my last load of laundry in the washer. :D

* I have three (!) gifts from the Support Stacie Homemade for the Holidays auction on their way to me. :)


Bad news:

* My favorite string of lights isn't working. I've replaced bulbs, but nothing. :P

* I've finished all my books! Nothing new to read in my house. Boo.

* I haven't written anything on Ulysses in WEEKS.


However, only two more weeks until winter break. Maybe I can actually catch up on some of my backlog. :) And, of course, class tomorrow. :D

I am, like, on my DEATHBED (well, okay, I have a cold, but still...) and you all are making me feel all gushy and loved. Thank you! ♥

A Stupid Lissa Trick.

A couple days ago, I was reading LJ (well, skimming, really, since it had been several days since I'd read my flist and I was back to about skip=180), and a friend posted something about a script for something called Rex. She was all excited about it, so I commented and asked her if it was a new movie or something--I hadn't heard of it.

She replied back today, really confused. "I know you'd heard about DT's new show in Hollywood."

Cue *headdesk*. I felt like such a dork...but I honestly hadn't heard what it was called. I'd just heard he was going to be doing a show where he played a lawyer.

So, yeah. It's my Stupid Lissa Trick for the day. At least it beats driving seven miles in the wrong direction before I realized my mistake. :P

Tonight's the first night I've logged onto my computer since Sunday. Life is BUSY. Between classes, work, catching up on sleep, family, and friends, I'm doing well to keep my head above water. I might even watch Waters of Mars at some point.

Nothing really to report--just a note to let you know I'm still around. Twelve more school days until winter break. Yeehaw.

All my holiday cards are done! I'll be mailing them tomorrow. FIFTY-ONE CARDS I'm mailing out. FIFTY-ONE. Ten of which go out of the country--three to Canada, one to New Zealand, and the rest to the UK.

Wow. I didn't do any cleaning or decorating today, but my laundry's done and so are FIFTY-ONE HOLIDAY CARDS. I'm feeling pretty damn accomplished. :)

Tomorrow, class. With luck, I can take a bit of a nap before I go. :) Three more weeks til winter break. Yay!

They've identified the four officers who were killed this morning.

Sgt. Mark Renninger, 39. He had 13 years of law enforcement experience and is survived by a wife and three children.

Officer Ronald Owens, 37. He had 12 years of law enforcement experience and is survived by a former wife and a daughter.

Officer Tina Griswold, 40. She had 14 years of law enforcement experience. She is survived by her husband and two children. She's a former Lacey police officer. She was awarded a lifesaving medal in July.

Officer Greg Richards, 42. He had eight years of law enforcement experience and is survived by his wife and three children.


Please pray for them and for their families.

Four local officers--they're not yet releasing whether they were from the Lakewood Police Department or the Pierce County Sheriff--were shot this morning in a coffee shop, while they were getting their paperwork ready to meet the day.
